Accounting Associate

The Accounting Associate is a part time position (18-20 hours/week) and acts as the hub for all accounting and financial activity at Bright Hope, which drives our team’s ability to bring Hope to the extreme poor. It is responsible for basic accounting and bookkeeping and processing payroll, and provides accounting and finance support to the CFO. The role has a dual reporting structure, reporting to the Director of International Partnerships and CFO.

The ideal candidate has an active, growing relationship with Jesus; is strong in GAAP accounting skills; has outstanding Quickbooks experience (including payroll processing); enjoys clerical and administrative tasks and thinks analytically; can work independently and collaboratively; solves problems; has attention to detail; and smiles often. And if someone has ever transitioned an accounting department from paper to electronic filing, that’s icing on the cake.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports CFO in various financial and accounting responsibilities
  • Accurately maintains QuickBooks, transfers funds, and runs reports
  • Records daily cash receipts
  • Monitors online bank activity
  • Prepares month end close by preparing journal entries and managing various asset and liability reconciliations
  • Reconciles credit card bank deposit activity to internal accounting records
  • Records all A/P transactions and ensures timely payment of all invoices; maintains vendor documentation files
  • Handles financial processing for wires/ACH transfers
  • Runs profit/loss statements, provides class balance reports and adjusts deficits if applicable
  • Prepares and presents reports to CFO or leadership team, such as cash flow and performance to budget
  • Supports CFO and leadership team during annual budget process with QuickBooks updates and reporting
  • Manages W-2 and 1099 documentation; Generates week payroll on time and accurately and tracks vacation balances
  • Represents Bright Hope to financial auditors; prepares accounting and financial documentation for annual audit
  • Provides documentation for the 990 and ensures it is filed on time
  • Manages annual renewals for various financial associations
  • Responds to staff inquiries regarding accounting activities
  • Exercises independent judgment and thought over resolution of non-routine accounting problems
  • Initiates process improvements routinely
  • Transitions accounting documentation from a paper filing system to electronic filing (one time occurrence)

Education and Experience

  • Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Four years of accounting experience; at least 2 in nonprofit accounting
  • Solid experience with QuickBooks and QuickBooks reporting
  • Solid technical accounting skills (GAAP)
  • Experience in payroll processing
  • Experience transitioning accounting documentation from paper to electronic preferred

Digital Marketing Internship

Bright Hope is seeking an enthusiastic college student to serve part time (5-10 hours per week) on a marketing project focused on creating and implementing Bright Hope’s Tribe Kids program. The core of the role is generating ideas, writing scripts, producing, and starring in weekly videos that target children (pre-k through pre-teen).

Tribe Kids: Bright Hope loves the idea of teaching children to serve the less fortunate and to give generously from their own abundance. Tribe Kids is a program for children who want to expand their worldview and make a difference. As a member of Tribe Kids, children gets ideas about how to make a difference by doing activities like having a garage sale or lemonade stand, get resources and information that they can share with family and friends as an advocate for the extreme poor, and watch Bright Hope’s Tribe Kids YouTube channel and submit videos of them serving. The ideal candidate has an active, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, affirms Bright Hope’s belief statement, and is working towards a college degree in digital marketing or related field. He/she has strong video production and technology skills, is creative, has energy and is engaging in front of a camera, has strong writing skills, is able to work collaboratively and independently, and has passion to make a difference in the lives of the extreme poor.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Meets and collaborates with the marketing team to set project goals and direction
  • Creates short videos (approximately 16-20) to be used weekly in December and summer 2020.

Can you tell and capture a compelling story? Do you like to travel? We need people in the field gathering the stories of life change through Bright Hope partnerships. Our Field Media Teams are creative thinkers with proven skills in photography, video and story telling. Our Field Media Interns travel the globe to capture the heart and soul of our partners in order to share what they create with our allies. More information regarding our Field Media Interns:

Partnership Development Interns

Our Partnership Developers (PD’s) are the hands and feet of Bright Hope in the field. They’re a uniquely gifted group of men and women who have a heart to help those living in extreme poverty. As an intern you will work alongside our PD’s in Africa or Latin America to craft development projects, build relationships with our church partners and search for impact stories and collect community data. Our interns must be versatile and exhibit strong communication and research skills. Requirements include:

  • Strong relationship with Jesus
  • 9 months to 1 year commitment
  • Community development experience or training
  • Self-funded position ($15,000/year)
  • International travel experience
