At five years old, Marah was sold into sex trafficking by her family’s servant who was supposed to take her to school. She was sold to a brothel, and for ten years Marah experienced constant sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. A tea seller had his shop on the same street as the brothel. Dennis Juma was born in Bondo, a rural village in Kenya. His father, the sole breadwinner for the family, died when Dennis was very young. After his father’s death he was living with his mother and siblings with his paternal grandparents until they kicked the entire family out. Having nowhere else to go his mother moved the family to Mathare Valley because this was the only place where living was affordable. Read more

Milton is 17 years old and works shining shoes in the city of Oruro. His family is from a rural village and when he was eight years old, his father left his mother and his five siblings. Milton was forced to drop out of school and work in the fields to help support his family. Milton wanted to go back to school so desperately that he often dreamed of studying. Read more
