Mathare Community Outreach
is Buying a Bus
Hope in Action Global of Springfield, Illinois is asking you to partner with MCO to help kids in Kenya go to school.
Mathare Community Outreach (MCO) is transforming the lives of children in the slums of Mathare Valley in Nairobi, Kenya. MCO offers the children of the slums the opportunity for a quality education and improving their everyday lives by providing them two meals a day. The current enrollment in the school is 1,425 students with 64 teachers. To learn more about this project, click here.
Education gives them hope for a future outside the slum.
How can a bus help educate the children of the Mathare Valley slum?
- Providing an opportunity to take students on field trips outside the slum.
- Providing transportation to extra-curricular events like the National Music Competition.
How else can the bus help lift these children and their families out of poverty?
- When not in use by the school, the bus can be rented to others as a way to generate income.
- Those revenues in turn help pay teachers' salaries.
- The school becomes less dependent on aid from outside sources, allowing it to devote resources to the childrens' education.
