Pignon Ministry / School Feeding Program

Country / Region: Haiti / Pignon
Project Summary:

Improving children's lives by giving them one guaranteed meal during school to increase attendance and better their future.

Project Overview

Since 1996, our partner in Pignon, Haiti, Pastor Jephthe Lucien, has established 40 satellite churches and 17 schools in Pignon and the surrounding communities. Through Pastor Jephthe, Bright Hope was able to establish a School Feeding Program. Many of the children would not be attending school at all if it were not for the schools provided by Pignon Ministries.

Currently, there are approx 2,500 students attending the 17 schools. Many of the students do not receive proper nutrition or even a basic meal before attending school. With the School Feeding Program, one meal is offered to every child that attends select schools.

This will improve their concentration and retention to fully engage in the education being given to them. On a larger scale, this will lead to impacting the student's current state, they're future, the livelihood of the children's families, and teachers involved in the school.

According to Pastor Jephthe, 'The purpose of these schools is outreach to the poorest, non-Christian kids in the neighborhoods surrounding the schools. The vast majority of these kids would come from non-Christian homes that with could be practicing witchcraft, voodoo. Because of these schools, the kids are receiving an education and are being exposed to Christian values and beliefs. The food provided by this program will provide the “fuel” for the Gospel message to sink into their stomachs, minds and hearts.

You can feed a child right now by going to "Sponsor This Project Today" in the yellow right hand corner of your screen. Just $100 would feed a Haitian child lunch for an entire year!
