Country / Region: Haiti / Pignon
Project Summary:

Improving the quality of life and strengthening the Christian witness in the community through micro loans such as: donkey rental programs, agricultural and leadership programs

Project Overview

In May of 2008, Bright Hope partnered with Pastor Jephthe of Pignon Ministries to begin a Micro Loan Program. After attending a training course in money management, participants would receive a loan to begin a small business.

With the original loan being the equivalent of just $30 US Dollars, families were able to start small vegetable gardens, feed their families and ultimately develop their own small business ventures.

In December 2008, 100% of the initial loans were repaid, Pastor Jepthe has distributed the equivalent of $60 US Dollar loans in the second phase of the program.

Through this program, over 285 families are regaining a sense of dignity, becoming far more self sustaining and creating their own hope for a better future.

Phase Three was to expand this program to 400-450 families. The program celebrated its 1 year anniversary in May 2009 with the second loans being returned at 100% payback. The third phase has distributed Micro Loans to 555 families!

Every $30 begins a family on their new business venture. You can contribute to the lives of hundreds by going to "Sponsor This Project Today" in the yellow right hand corner of your screen.
