Beracah Widow Becomes Self-Sustainable

Beracah, Zambia — Ruthy, a widow trying to support her 8 kids (1 with Down's Syndrome), was added to the Beracah program in 2009 to support the kids' education and provide job training. She was given a $30 loan for a kitchen garden to grow tomatoes, collard greens and Chinese cabbage. The loan was repaid and she earned another for $60 for chicken rearing. She used some of the money to buy inputs from a co-op for maize farming, as well as hiring someone to dig a well on her property for clean water.

Ruthy said, "I want to thank you for the way that you are helping us. May you continue."
