Gwen's Loan Turns Her Life Around

Beracah, Zambia — Gwen Mesa is widowed and looks after three of her own children and four orphans. Several years ago, Gwen was trained by another organization in vegetable production. Last year, her church enrolled her into Beracah’s livelihoods program.

She used her loan to grow tomatoes, collard greens, and bananas. The return she saw from her loan was the highest Beracah had ever seen. After repaying her loan, she took a second loan which she has used to grow maize. All of her children are now in school. While Gwen had been previously trained, it wasn’t until she received her loan that she was able to buy the proper supplies, put her training to use, and turn her life around.
