Natalia Leads Women in Action Project in Peruvian Jungle

Aoti, Peru — The Women in Action project began in 2008 under the leadership of Antonia Yalta in partnership with Segadores. The project provides workshops for women in sewing and artisan crafts so they may learn new skills and earn income to better provide for their families.

Natalia is a native Ashaninka woman living in the Aoti community. She has been a part of the Women in Action Project since its beginning, working under Antonia to be trained in many different workshops including sewing, beading and basket making. She quickly became interested in learning the business side to the project, and Antonia helped train her in basic accounting and sales practices. Natalia also joined the leadership board for the women’s committee, gaining knowledge and experience to help her better serve the project. Beginning this year, Natalia will be taking over leadership of the Women in Action Project. After working closely with Antonia, she feels empowered and prepared to take on this new challenge. Under her leadership, she hopes to grow the project to train 30 Ashaninka women.

Natalia’s husband Victor is an elder in the church and works with the Sunday school program, and together they have a young daughter. As a family they are dedicated to serving the church and their community, and spreading Hope to the Ashaninka people of Aoti.
