You might think of a family receiving a loan to jumpstart their business, or an individual attending job skills training to work towards self-sustainability. But what about an entire church coming together to generate income for their ministries? That’s exactly the model Bright Hope is implementing in Bolivia, and it’s changing how the local church can impact their community.

Jinja, Mukono, and Luwero, Uganda – In January, Bright Hope launched the Orphan to Family Initiative, a program that empowers the local church to support vulnerable families and their children. From January until June, over 60 church leaders from Jinja, Mukono, and Luwero participated in training that focused on what causes children to become vulnerable, how the Bible calls the church to care for the vulnerable, and the best practices for how to care for orphans and vulnerable children.

Oruro, Bolivia – Marylou has worked for the after-school program at Agua Viva de la Roca Church for 3 years. She has served more than 120 children over that time by providing meals, tutoring, basic hygiene education, psychological support and spiritual discipleship. She is a single-mother of 3 daughters, Tati, Ruby, and America; however over the years, she has become a mother to all the children of the program, loving and caring for each of them as her own.

Santiago, Chile - La Pintana is a slum in Santiago, Chile with a population of about 200,000 people, 80 percent of whom are living below the poverty line. Many children in this neighborhood live or work on the streets with no one to care for them, and those who do have homes often deal with abuse or neglect.
