Corn Harvest Flourishing

Pignon, Haiti — In early 2011, Bright Hope partnered with Harvesting Hope to develop a mid-scale farm that could eventually support the school feeding programs established by Pignon Ministries. We've received great news that the corn crop is growing steadily!

An old tractor and attachments were shipped last summer, and a solar-powered water well was installed early this year. In April, a farming team was sent to prepare the land and plant corn seed.

We were slightly concerned about insect infestation, so the agronomist on the team hired someone to spray the crop. At this point, it's believed that the corn plants are established enough so that insects are not attracted to it anymore.

In America, developing a small seven-acre farm seems inconsequential, but in Pignon it is a great accomplishment. It is our hope and prayer that this effort may be used to grow crops on a larger scale to feed the hungry in Pignon and the surrounding communities.
