Unfortunately, learning to read is often impossible in communities plagued by extreme poverty. This is especially true for children growing up in the Mathare slums outside Nairobi, Kenya. For this reason, our partner church, Outreach Community Church, started a school to create an affordable education option. Bright Hope has supported the school’s computer center, reading program, and vocational scholarships for years.

Aggrey Otieno grew up in dire poverty. Through our generous allies, he received a scholarship to attend the MCO (Mathare Community Outreach) Joy School and the trajectory of his future changed. Now, Aggrey has completed his bachelor's degree in information technology and is serving as a teacher at his alma mater.
As a 4th and 5th grade teacher, Aggrey is thrilled to be providing the Reading Eggs learning app to his students. The Reading Eggs program allows students to access formal reading instruction, English language lessons and a virtual library with hundreds of books!
Many other children in Mathare still need hope for a better tomorrow. Your gift of $25, $50, or more will allow children at the MCO Joy school to learn skills to build a successful, sustainable life. Right now, we need $6,500 to meet our fiscal year Reading Eggs budget and I would deeply appreciate your help to bridge that gap!
