At only twenty years old, Robert’s life is an anomaly in his impoverished town in Uganda. Even though Robert endured the agony of losing his parents when he was only ten years old and grew up as an orphan, he held on to the rare luxury of dreaming. His tenacity and potential met opportunity, and his future is now filled with hope. He owns several businesses and is a farmer with diversified crop rotations.

Robert credits his selfless grandparents and the opportunity he found in the Savings for Life group for his success in building a sustainable life.
Bright Hope’s Savings for Life program is comprised of self-governing groups where each member contributes weekly to the group’s savings. Members can then request loans from their group at a fair interest rate. With these funds, Robert started a business selling Chapatis (fried bread) during the dry season and growing and harvesting corn and cassava during the rainy season. He also created a brick business and has hired employees! The Savings for Life program has removed unnecessary limitations from Robert, and his vision for businesses has become a thriving reality!
To continue expanding our Savings for Life groups in 2023, we need to raise $8,800. Your gift of $25, $50, or $100 will continue creating opportunities for impoverished families to utilize their resources and gifts to break free from the grip of poverty and build a sustainable future.
Robert shared: “Now that I am saving money, I want to start hiring land every rainy season and growing corn and rice. Since we are close to Kenya, I want to sell my yields across the border. I want to be able to look back and say that this all started when I joined Savings for Life!”
