We shared hundreds of stories, photos and videos with you in 2018, giving you an inside glimpse into all the amazing things God is doing, introducing you to the people whose lives you are changing. Standing at the threshold of 2019, we looked back and wondered which ones really struck a chord with you—our allies and friends?

So we combed through a year’s worth of Facebook posts to find out…

5: What’s it Like to Be Pregnant in Uganda?

In Uganda, if women don’t bring their own medical supplies to the hospital for the delivery, the nurses may send them home or refuse to help them…

4: Give a Chicken!

Giving a family a chicken gives them an ongoing source of income! Eggs the chicken lays are a great source of nutrition, or the new chicks can be raised to maturity and then be sold or used for food. With that extra income, families are able to pay for school fees, medical care, clothing and many other necessities that dramatically improve one’s standard of living.

And–it’s the gift that keeps on giving, because when the chickens begin to reproduce, a chick is given to another family, who in turn gives one to another family, and so on! Give one today.

3: A Big Miracle for a Tiny Baby: Part 1

“The first pictures I saw of Baby Sarah a few months ago were startling. And heartbreaking. Her tiny body was devastatingly depleted from malnutrition. She was several months old, yet only weighed around two pounds. She was losing her vision.” Read the rest of the blog post (and don’t forget to read part 2 as well!).

1: Pray for Patrick

Pray for Patrick. Yes, this child is three years old, even though he looks much younger. He was diagnosed with severe malnutrition at the clinic in Uganda today. Our team rushed him to the hospital in town and we are praying for his recovery. More about Patrick later- Like Bright Hope to follow his story.

*The response to this prayer request was overwhelming. Seeing all the post shares and prayers in the comments touched us deeply. It was amazing to see how this little boy was so quickly covered in prayer from around the world. This was love in action. This was the Body of Christ coming together to minister to “the least of these.” Thank you.

And then, we couldn’t resist throwing in a few more posts that our staff loved. Here are a couple of our favorite posts from 2018:

Marycruz’s Story

10-year-old Marycruz is a little girl in Bolivia whose life is filled with extreme hardship–from losing her father, to living in poverty with hardly any food. But our partner church has reached out to their family and this story is turning around.

“Why Are All Americans Rich and All Africans Poor?” We Were Asked

“When people here in Uganda see a ‘Muzungu’ [white person], they see a dollar sign,” someone said.

But this trip was different; we met men and families who saw a “Muzungu” as a brother and a friend from whom they were ready to learn and share experiences.

Thank you for letting us share the heartbeat of who we are with you this past year. Some days we’ve smiled big… and some days we’ve shed tears. We’ve celebrated beautiful victories and major milestones, and we’ve borne the heartache of loss and suffering. There will always be mountains and valleys as we’re working to be the hands and feet of Jesus serving those in extreme poverty, but you truly made 2018 a better year for tens of thousands of people around the world. That is no exaggeration… and we couldn’t have done it without you.

So with a heart full of anticipation for all that will be accomplished and all the new victories we’ll see in 2019, let’s go! With God’s help, prayer, and linked arms with you, let’s make 2019 our best year yet!
