URGENT: Devastating Fire in Kenyan School

Have you ever been to a slum? Probably not! If you were to walk down the streets of the Kariobangi slum in northeastern Nairobi, Kenya, you would see closely packed, deteriorated homes and apartments, dirt roads, garbage, and some of the poorest people in the world.

In the middle of the Kariobangi slum, one of Bright Hope’s partner churches operates a school and home to provide impoverished kids with Christ-centered education, food, housing, and Hope.

Unfortunately, on July 9th, a fire broke out at a children’s home at this school in Kariobangi. The fire completely gutted the girls’ dormitory, destroying everything! The fire also damaged the property manager’s home.

“Everyone was safe, but tragically nothing was rescued from the dorm,” said Bishop Daniel Ogutu, founding Pastor of Outreach Community Church and Mathare Community Outreach.

The children’s home, which stands out as an oasis of peace in the Kariobangi slum desperately needs your help! The hallways and bedrooms that used to echo with laughter are now quiet with walls stained by smoke and fire.

But even in the midst of tragedy, our Kenyan friends have Hope. Bishop Dan Ogutu expressed this supernatural Hope: “We are believing [in] God for great provision.” Our friends in Kenya prove God’s word true: “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail” (Lamentations 3:22).

In order to understand the difficulty these young girls are facing, it’s important to know what their lives looked like before the fire. On a typical day, their teachers lead them in reading, math, geography, and history, as well as memorizing Scripture, singing hymns, and believing in God’s love. Growing up in a children’s home, these precious kids attend school, play, eat and grow up together. But they need your help to rebuild.

Would you consider how you can help show God’s love and provision?

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to help rebuild the girls’ dorm and to enable the ministry thrive in the face challenges like this heartbreaking fire.

Please consider giving $50 today and praying for our friends at the children’s house in the Kariobangi slum. Your donation will help rebuild the girls’ dorm and will equip Bright Hope to help meet other urgent needs.
