Sustainable Solutions Give the Extreme Poor Hope

Today, jubilation fills the air! Across the arid landscapes of Kenya, hope has blossomed for 2,000 impoverished individuals. What was once barren desert now thrives as fertile land, nurturing crops to sustain families and bolster livelihoods. Hunger fades into memory as hope for sustainable solutions takes center stage.

To all who contributed to bringing irrigation to the Natoot Farm in Turkana, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. Your generosity, whether in large or small donations, and your fervent prayers have facilitated the drilling of new water sources, bringing joy and relief to numerous families grappling with adversity.

Yet, the wellspring of hope I wish to highlight isn’t mere water accessibility.

The Well of Eternal Life

There exists another, boundless well— the hope found in Jesus Christ. Founded and operated by local evangelical churches, the Natoot Farm has become a beacon of hope, where the Gospel is shared repeatedly with the Turkana tribe. Many have embraced the It’s message, accepting the gift of salvation and discovering an eternal wellspring of life.

Eternal hope manifests in numerous ways. First is the assurance of God’s care. Amidst life’s hardships, particularly for the extreme poor, knowing that a loving God shoulders their burdens brings solace. Jeremiah 29:11 reassures us of God’s good plans: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” His design is one of goodness and promise.

Second, hope transcends the visible realm. For nomadic communities like in Turkana, the unseen world is fraught with fear, steeped in ancestral warnings of malevolent spirits and evil influences. However, through embracing Jesus, they learn to entrust their lives to the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 4:18 reminds us to fix our gaze on the eternal unseen rather than the visible, fostering a newfound sense of trust.

Lastly, hope provides a sanctuary of rest. When one entrusts their life, children, and livelihood to God, a profound peace ensues. As they cultivate crops and embrace sustainable living practices, a tranquil assurance permeates each new day. Psalms 62:5-6 and 16:9 exclaim the joy of finding rest in God’s embrace, affirming His steadfastness as a rock and fortress.

The Miracle of Hope

At Bright Hope’s office, the “miracle bell” rings with joy. Jesus continues to illuminate each day with His hope and goodness. Join us as we celebrate God’s abundant blessings upon the Turkana Tribe— a testament to the power of His hope, both heavenly and earthly, but especially eternal.

Hi, I am C.H. Dyer. I have a passion for helping those living in extreme poverty and a knack for getting people engaged with the poor. I believe if you are faithful and generous with what you have, God will transform you and your family’s hearts and minds, just as your gifts can bring physical transformation to the poor. My angel wife, Anne, and three kids are my inspiration. And I also happen to have been leading Bright Hope for the past two decades.
