Robert Breaks the Cycle of Poverty

People living in extreme poverty often have the determination to work hard but often lack the training, opportunities and start-up cash needed for success. When you partner with Bright Hope, you empower extremely poor families to increase their income. And by doing this, they can break free from the grips of poverty – permanently.

Just listen to Robert’s story!

At only twenty-years-old, Robert’s life is leaps and bounds ahead of many others in his impoverished town in Uganda. Even though he grew up as an orphan, losing his parents at age ten, Robert has big dreams for the future. Already an owner of several businesses and a farmer with diversified crop rotations, there’s truly no limit to his tenacity and potential.

Robert credits his selfless grandparents and Savings for Life group for giving him the opportunity to build a sustainable life.

Bright Hope’s Savings for Life program is comprised of self-governing groups where each member contributes weekly to the group’s savings. Members can then request loans from their group at a fair interest rate. With these funds, Robert started a business selling Chapatis (fried bread) during the dry season and growing crowing corn and cassava during the rainy season. He also started a brick business and has hired employees! Truly, the sky is the limit for Robert!

Robert shared: “Now that I am saving money, I want to start hiring land every rainy season and growing corn and rice. Since we are close to Kenya, I want to sell my yields across the border. I want to be able to look back and say that this all started when I joined Savings for Life!”

Please join us by investing in the futures of smart, hard-working people like Robert! Your ongoing gifts will lift countless individuals and families from extreme poverty to lives of sustainability and hope. Let’s break the grip of poverty together!
